Memorial Day Weekend Potluck/Cookout May. 28th, 2010 @ 10:02 pm
tygercowboy
Thank you to everyone that RSVP'd!!! Looks like we have a great group coming, even a group from NARFA will be joining us along with some of our new locals! I will have plenty of brats and hot dogs and what ever else I can come up with. Since it does look like we will have a good size group, anyone that has lawn chairs, you might want to bring them along as well.

Yup that's right, this coming Sunday 5/30, we will be holding a Holiday Cookout/Potluck at the BBH (now Big Brown House) 6267 Famous Ave, Saint Louis, 63139 Starting at 2pm! If you plan on coming, PLEASE RSVP by Saturday as that's when we will be buying what's needed. (my email is mideonwerewolf@gmail.com)

We will be providing brats and hot dogs along with Ice Tea and will have plates, silverware and cups and everyone can bring a side, salad or dessert, what you want to drink soft drinks or alcohol (*note* no underage drinking allowed)

Ideas of things to bring (the question always gets asked)
Sides - Mac n Cheese, Baked Beans, etc
Salads - green, fruit, etc
Desserts - pies, cakes, cupcakes etc

Potluck rules apply.......(yes, yes I know but there is always one that doesn't understand)
Potluck rules - The whole purpose of a Potluck is a gathering where everyone brings a dish to share. The rule of thumb is that what ever you bring should be enough for 4-6 people to each have a decent serving. Look at it like going out got a decent dinner. You would probably spend $15 plus for Chili's or Fudruckers, and you are getting a hellacious amount of food that you will have at, so spend accordingly. Nothing pisses off a host more than a mooch. If you want to come but can't financially afford to get something, talk to the host upfront/privately about it BEFORE the event. Heck if nothing else offer to do dishes, take out the trash or help clean up. Contribute how you can that will help the host!

Looking forward to a fun day!!

Furry Event Rules May. 18th, 2010 @ 02:27 pm
tygercowboy
Someone asked why we had rules when I posted about a gathering a while back and what they were, so here is the explanation!

Planning events:

It can take a lot of time and effort to put something on not to mention the stress of what feels like trying to heard drunk cats sometimes. Remember when you are planning an event to be aware of other events planned around. Try not and plan something on top of someone else's event unless you talk it over with them first. It's very frustrating when you are planning something only to have someone muddle things up. If at all else possible if 2 want to do events around the same time, try working together to do like a weekend of events. If you plan an event and no one shows up, as the onld saying goes try, try again. Sometimes it falls into place for a great turn out and sometimes it doesn't. Try and remember to keep things as reasonable as possible. If all else fails, ask opinions before planning the event. If doing something public like at a business, mall, park, etc. with today's increased awareness with security and transmittable virus threats, check with the owner/manager/park service director or whatever to make sure things like fursuits are allowed. It's not fun to have security making you take your fursuit head off in front of kids or be seen being escorted out of the premises.

Attending events:

At someone's house or apartment -

When you go to an event, someone has spent time, energy and a lot of the time some money especially if they are having it at their apartment or house. Be a good guest! Some of the things you need to pay close attention to are:

Smoking rules - Can you smoke inside and if not, where can you smoke. Also don't just discard your cigarette butts, put them where they belong

Pet rules - if they have dogs or cats in the house, make sure you don't stand with the door open and make sure you close it tightly if you go in or out. If it's ok to give the animals treats or anything

PDA rules - Unless you are going to an orgy, keep it in your pants. If you are doing something and someone else looks uncomfortable....stop!

If you want to come but can't financially afford to get something, talk to the host upfront/provately about it. Heck if nothing else offer to do dishes, take out the trash or help clean up. Contribute how you can that will help the host!

Cleanliness rules - Be a good guest and you make sure you get invited back. Use common sense and common courtesy when at someone's place. Use coasters or a napkin to sit your drink on. Throw your cans, cups, plates, trash away. If you are using "real" plates, glasses, silverware, take them to the kitchen and as the host what they want done with them. You may like living in a cluttered place but that does not give you right to do it as someone else's place. Also ...... take a shower and wear clean clothes.

R.S.V.P.'s - When an invite is given in any form and you plan on attending even if it's a "maybe" let the host know. If you can't make it don't just be a no show, let the house know what you are not able to make it. Don't just drop in unless you know that is ok ahead of time. If a set time is given for things to start try and be there on time or a little early. If you are running late let someone know.

Public Gatherings - Some special things to remember here

PDA's - Use common sense. Most of the time you are mixed company (gay/straight) so not an appropriate place for public displays of affection.

Furry/Sci-Fi/Anime Regalia - Make sure with who over is organizing it fursuits, ears, tails, collars, plush animals etc are OK. Remember not everyone understands Furry or all they know about it is what they saw on CSI. This is not a "Squick the Mundanes" game.

Support the business - Most the time outings take place at restaurants, coffee houses or something similar. Be prepared to buy something. These are businesses, if everyone came and didn't buy something the business would close it's doors. Also don't go and expect someone to cover you or worse yet, they order something and beg someone to pay for it for them. If someone is going to cover you, make arrangements prior - and pay that person back if that is what is supposed to happen!

Be a good customer - If it's at a bar, don't get stupid drunk so the rest of the group has to take care of you. If you have had too much to drink, give someone your keys. Also chances are the person that has organized the outing has a friendly relationship with staff at the business. If you are not sure if something is ok or not, ask! Also don't to things that annoy, hurt, injure your friends or other customers.

Fursuits - Make sure that your suit is acceptable for the event (i.e. nothing scary for a children's event) Always try and change out of public sight and if you have to pop your head, paws, suit please get out of sight as much as possible. Never unsuit in front of kids unless it's an emergency (i.e. overwhelmed with heat or security issue) Seeing someone take fursuit parts off in the open ruins the magic.

Don't make a scene! - Leave the drama for your mamma! If you come to an event and start shit, expect to be asked to leave and not allowed back!

Hopefully this helps and will make for some fun events in the coming months!!

Just remember....it only takes one person not playing by the rules of common decency and etiquette to ruin that event and events in the future for everyone

I've been here two months, and I haven't made a post to say HI!

I live in Illinois, and looking to move closer to St. Louis (or at least, the Belleville/Fairview Heights area). Right now, I live kinda near Mt. Vernon.

K...I guess I should introduce myself.

My name is Peaches. I'm 26, and married to RebelKat. I don't know how many people here may know us, but we go to several of the east coast conventions, and we've been around awhile. I've been in the fandom since 1995, which is a way long time ago. I'm an artist, and I guess I'm pretty much an all around goofball. I spin poi, and it's awesome, and it makes life awesome. I tattoo. I apprenticed at a wonderful studio in Florida, and eventually, I would like to open up my own studio. All in good time though, right?

I would love to meet some other furries in the area. My husband and I love to go to St. Louis Zoo, and City Museum. We like to hit the casinos when we have extra cash. We get dolled up and wear our tails out, and it's pretty fun. I'm not much of a bar person, but I'll go with a group I'm comfortable with.

I would love to get together and have an art pow-wow or a fursuit construction meet, or just outings of sorts. I welcome new friends, and I would love to get to know more people in the area. :3

Here's my website.

And my FA page.

Thanks guys! Hope I get to meet some of ya'll soon!!

German guy possibly visiting Chesterfield/St. Louis Dec. 24th, 2009 @ 12:11 am

Dear Furries of St. Louis! (and even better: Chesterfield!)

I'm a (hopefuly) convenient dog from germany, and MAY visit Chesterfield for a undefinit lenght of time in a few months or even weeks, just so to finally get to know the US (and train my english, as you should have noticed by now!).

BUT! I don't have even a hint of a clue how the US furry community is organized, especially the community of St. Louis. Are there regular meetings? Who should I talk to? Who shouldn't I? ;) Is there an organizational head? Are there any conventions nearby within the next months? Is there an IRC channel or something? And so on!

Well, These were the first questions coming to my mind. I do hope to find a patient fur to interrogate. Volunteers, anyone? =)

Happy greetings from the ice cold and boring germany!

Heya! Got a minor issue... Dec. 21st, 2009 @ 12:02 am
hazydragon
Greetings! I am just dropping in, I hope no one minds that I posted something... but... I have a minor issue...

Ya see, I am In Helena, MT, and due to housing issues, I am moving to Jacksonville, FL. The bus leaves todaty at 4:30 MST. [the 21st 'today'] No big deal, right? Well, I look over my Greyhound ticket... and I blinked, and blinked again... I have a 20 HOUR layover in St. Louis! [Estimated arrival: 5:15PM December 23rd.] What bad luck!

So, my question is... would anyone mind having a male dragon come over, and crash at their place? I will have my own food, and all that stuff, I just REALLY would prefer to sleep in a bed contrary to a bench, and even more so, paying for a hotel room. x.x I am gay friendly, and the like... I mean, I just need a place to crash over night, you don't even have to keep me the full 20 hours if you rather not. I wish I had more time to explain and the like, but, such as it is, I just found out about it.

Please contact me via AIM: hazarathdragon, Yahoo: hazy.dragon or hazarath.dragon, or MSN: hazy.dragon@gmail.com or use... whatever LJ uses... i just created the account to ask anyone's help.

Sorry for such the HUGE post... please contact me,

FrightFest anyone? Sep. 14th, 2009 @ 11:54 am
crystal_waters
Hey everyone! raiken and I are currently making plans to attend FrightFest at Six Flags St. Louis sometime in October. We currently have three people going (me, him, and his buddy Craz), but would love to have more! (More furries, more fun!)

If you’re interested, please comment! We currently don’t have a date set, so we can try to set a date that works for everyone. We’re also looking to do some laser tag in Belleville in the next month or so, but don’t have a date set for that either. If anyone is in Illinois, it's likely we'll be doing some stuff over there as that's where it seems all the lonely furs are. Don't be shy, join us!
